Free. Ideal for children ages 4-12.

Have you ever wondered…

  • HOW to build a log cabin, mortar a brick wall, or thatch a roof?
  • WHAT straw bale construction was?
  • WHERE you could see a painted screen?
  • IF IT WAS HARD to plaster a wall, carve stone, hammer a nail, or saw a piece of wood?

Amateur builders, young and old alike, can discover the answers to these questions and more as they work side by side with designers, builders, artisans, and tradespeople at this year’s Big Build festival.

Activities for all ages include drywall finishing, bricklaying, roof thatching, woodworking, surveying, and nail driving. Festival attendees can talk with plumbers, roofers, landscape architects, conservationists, and experts in many other fields to learn about techniques and materials. Kids can even design a small painted screen or decorative light switch plate to take home.
